Pentax Spotmatic

Yeah.

I mean, and again, this is a cool time because this is where the Pentax Spotmatic starts to really grow.

And as you say, it is important because it is an affordable camera, right? They're very much like targeting the amateur market, trying to get 35 millimeter into there.

So many great range finders are being made in the 60s.

The original Pen-F was 1963.

Cool camera.

But yeah, the Pentax Spotmatic in 64, very cool camera.

That camera design has stuck around, sticks around with a lot

You know, when I started taking pictures, well, my first camera was a Rolleiflex that my dad gave me.

And then I had a Pentax Spotmatic.

And then it was immediately into Nikon.

Nikon was the standard tool of the trade for a professional photographer.

I did have a Mamiya 35mm 1.0 rangefinder.

This is their SLR designed to compete with the Spotmatic.

Does it? Well, yes.

So apart from the fact it takes M.2.2 lenses.

Apart from the fact that to use the stop-down metering, you have to use the Mamiya-branded M42, which, you know, fair enough.

It's pretty amazing.

Now, the Spotmatic was supposed to have spot metering, thus the name, but never did.

It only had the average metering because they couldn't get it out in time for when they were releasing it.
