Only a few ornithologists can have a complete collection of birds for reference.

Everyone can save feathers of birds or old nests, however, and when birds are found dead, they may be saved as specimens if a permit for holding them is requested from the State Game Commission.

When I was a lad, I saved feathers which I found in the woods and had a large collection of these.

Some of them, I later found, were all that were needed in authenticating a good record.

You know, I, that one day when I have kids, I hope my kids do the same thing and follow in those footsteps.

After getting out of the military, it, going in with that tradition-type mindset, like, this is what our family does, that kinda knowing, I thought I was gonna be a cop when I get out, and I actually applied for the, uh, P, uh, uh, the State Police here in Pennsylvania and Game Commission.

But during the whole process of both of those things, I realized that country music is what I wanted to do.

So that's, uh, that got, kinda went off the beaten path a little bit.

He's staring in the hole, looks back at me.

Goes, "There's a bear in there." Like, "I know there's a bear in there.

I just saw it." And, uh, but he and his buddies, uh, being a cop, his buddy's in the game commission, and, uh, they actually ended up going out with the coup- one of the, uh, wildlife biologists and vaccinating her.

She had three cubs in there with her.

There was a unanimous 7-0 Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision in a case brought by Punxsutawney Hunting Club and Pitch Pine Hunting Club, represented by the Institute for Justice.

The ruling was issued against the Pennsylvania Game Commission's practice of warrantless entries onto posted and private land.

There's been a lot of social media conversation about this right now.

And so what I want to do is I want to kind of set the table, set the landscape for this, and then I'm going to open it up for conversation.

So here are the facts, right? The facts are, and I'm trying to, I don't want to give a biased position on either side.

So for years, Game Commission has routinely sent officers on a private posted land, including the two hunting clubs in question, without warrants or notice to conduct surveillance.

And their investigation is under longstanding open fields doctrine.

And we'll talk about what that means later.
