yeah let's move on i was thinking something one thing that makes sense something else that i think makes sense is the earlier this year we saw that peggy were altering the way that they rated games particularly around paid randomized mechanics or the paid random items loot boxes you know ea sports fc packs as a few examples now they're they have officially begun to make those changes to ratings and adjust the criteria.

And I think the leading example here and a good way to start this conversation is EA Sports FC has been bumped from a PEGI 3 all the way up to a PEGI 16 entirely because of its paid randomized mechanics.

Yeah.

This, yeah, we'll see how effective this is long-term, but this feels to me, John, like a really, a long overdue step towards addressing the problematic nature of these mechanics.

Anyway, look, the point being is in our household, we're pretty good with stuff like you're 11 years old, you can't play GTA.

I'd love to see the age gating linked to store access.

So if you're playing something like FC27 and the PEGI rating is 16 on buying the cards for Ultimate or something like that, it would be really good to have something like a parental block appear on the store.

I think that's the only way you can do anything meaningful.

All that's left for me to do is run through the news.

One news story that's happening in Europe is PEGI has started increasing the age ratings of games that feature loot boxes.

So if you heard games with loot boxes, you have to be ready.

PEGI 16 in Europe.

That includes EA Sports FC, includes Pokemon Go.

The updates to age ratings are happening now and continue until the end of October.

You wanna get out.

And I think one fun, fun fact about the game is that it was rated, like, um, PEGI 18 for a while.

Mm.

And had, like, these, and these are rare, um, rare games now, and because it's ridiculous.

Um, so now it's, now it's back to.

True, yeah.

But I'm like, "Oh, I wish I had the illegal PEGI 18 version-

Um, oh yeah, we also got the PEGI rating [laughs] for Grand Theft Auto VI, which you have to have like-

... specific, um, like it has to be detailed about what all is in the game.

Islands with paid random items became unavailable in some regions after...

PEGI and IARC updated their rating criteria.

A fix to immediately re-enable these islands is rolling out now, and they should be playable again within the hour.

This was earlier today, so that should be good to go by now.

And we're updating Fortnite to support this paid random items change and working with PEGI and IARC on timing to roll out their new criteria.

In the meantime, they'll temporarily update these islands to a 12 rating over the next few days.

Okay, and yeah, that's really the news that I have for you today.

Um, speaking of Grand Theft Auto, apparently the Grand Theft Auto ratings got pulled after revealing too many salacious scenes and things.

Uh, so, you know, uh, the MPAA and the PEGI ratings are, I guess, yes, uh, they rate video games, so to make sure that, you know, people know what's in the games and what ratings, you know, whether or not you should or shouldn't let your kids play it, those types of situations.

Um, so apparently PEGI rated the game, uh, that, that is the ratings board in Europe.

Uh, and they had posted it, and apparently they pulled it shortly thereafter because apparently it was giving away too much stuff.

Ooh.

Wow, that's actually crazy.

Uh, acc- according to PEGI, the game features drug use that is frequent and prominent, with the player being able to partake in drug use with others and to use illegal drugs directly from their inventory.
