And even though the things that he's involved with her in constantly coming at her, constantly asking her out day after day after day, being charming in the beginning, right after she starts work, after her husband, Ed Harris, ships off, you know, joins the Navy, you know, after Pearl Harbor gets bombed, right? Like, he's working on her, he's being charming, whatever.

The way these scenes go, you'd think that an hour later in the movie, you'll never see him again.

And when he finally starts to have a relationship with them, they're doing things that are very important to the plot.

Not so morose, but almost like a leaving Las Vegas.

So this movie starts, right? We have all the aw shucks of the 40s.

People, adults are holding balloons when they find out Pearl Harbor was bombed.

They were at the beach.

All right, let's start with Oahu because it's the one island where the answer really depends on your itinerary.

If you're based in Waikiki and mostly doing Pearl Harbor, the beach, and shopping, you can get around just fine without a car.

The bus covers a lot of ground, ride share is everywhere, and parking in Waikiki runs you $40 to $50 a night at most hotels, so skipping the rental really does save money.

Where it falls apart is the North Shore and the Windward Side.
