Peace Tower

Well, this is it.

And w- and what problem have you solved? Uh, we understand about the arguments about human dignity, and is it, you know, is it, uh, disrespectful or exploitive? But anyway, let's get back to the needles and the excrement on the street outside Parliament for people who wanna take their children up to see the Peace Tower.

The, uh, there's some confusion and detachment from reality here.

All right.

But those were people's daughters and sons and friends and parents that died s- and in such horrific circumstances that, you know, every year they need to be remembered.

Well, I did an interview last week, as I indicated earlier, with David Collenette, your cabinet colleague, and when we talked about those moments of twenty-five years ago and some of the decisions he was responsible for making, and as he looked out the window of his office to see the Peace Tower wondering whether or not a plane was about to hit it, um, he choked up twenty-five years later and just-

... thought about how awful that day was.

The, get the Peace Tower on there? The Peace Tower one? I always thought it would be like if they're going to go to the, because if we get out, they'll get like a new third jersey every year, it seems.

Isn't there something happening this year? I think so.

Not just with Ottawa, like I think every team.

There's going to be something funky.

Yeah, I think that logo is kind of, if you did it up right, I think it would be pretty cool as a one-off.

As a patch or as the whole logo? Yeah, why not the patch? Yeah, I think it's great to have the patches up on the shoulder, have the peace tower there.

Right, you're trying to develop pride in your team in this community, and I think they do an amazing job at it.

You know, they went through the checklist on security and what the airports should be doing.

When you got back to Ottawa and you were in your office and looking out the window and seeing the Peace Tower, did it go through your head that, geez, I wonder if that's the next target?

It did, because Transport Canada, the minister's office is on the tallest building in Ottawa, which was built sort of illegally in a height bylaw, and it sits on the 29th floor.

And I looked right out of the window, and I'm there, just sort of looking slightly to the east, and the tower is right there.
