PDP-8

So right now on my desk, I have a Z80 running CPM, a real Z80 on PC board, actually built from a Hackaday project.

I have a replica PDP-8, a replica Altair.

I've got an 1802 somewhere, but I'll have to admit it's not on my desk.

I saw two Commodore 64s out in the storage box that I need to pull out.

I got a replica PDP-8.

You know, they both have Raspberry Pis in them.

You could say, well, okay, computers, yes.

Uh, I was programming them, uh, on a PDP-8 in high school.

Internet, yes, we watched all that happen.

But, but this is knowledge.

But remember, Asimov wrote this back in 1964.

That was a time at which phones were wired and companies were only just starting to release so-called compact computers, such as the PDP-8, which weighed a hefty 26 kilograms.

More broadly, Asimov foresaw the rise of everyday computing.

In his Toronto Star interview, he predicted that mobile computerized devices would enter our homes and that society would become so complex that we wouldn't be able to function without them.
