Paycheck Protection Program, a PPP loan, just like a lot of people did.

Businesses were shutting down, restaurants were closing, people were losing their jobs, families were wondering how they were going to pay the mortgage, buy groceries, or keep the lights on.

And the federal government stepped in with an emergency program called the Paycheck Protection Program, or PPP.

The idea was simple, help struggling businesses keep their employees on the payroll, keep people working, keep businesses alive until the economy could reopen.

And taxpayers paid hundreds of billions of dollars for that effort.

Well, yesterday, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Detroit announced another settlement involving allegations of COVID relief fraud.

Two companies, Energy Steel and Supply and Hayward Tyler, have agreed to pay nearly $4.8 million to settle allegations that they improperly obtained PPP loans.

Both companies were subsidiaries of a business headquartered in the United Kingdom.

Federal prosecutors alleged that the companies falsely certified they were eligible for loans, even though when their affiliated companies were counted, they exceeded the program's 300-employee limit.

And I did quite a bit of work with institutions during the pandemic on the Paycheck Protection Program, PPP.

They didn't slow down one little bit, but they got a Paycheck Protection Program loan for $10,000.

We're not going to let you go to work, but the government's here with a check, and we'll give checks to all the businesses.

We'll give checks under the Paycheck Protection Program to all the individuals who, well, we put out of a job.
