Tim WeisbergHOST
4:51
If you remember yesterday, we talked about the...
Tim WeisbergHOST
4:53
And in the next hour, we're going to have a Pawtucket restaurant owner, Jason Sugarman, joining us to talk about this new wholesale addition to Maven's Delicatessen.
Tim WeisbergHOST
5:04
The idea that people here in New Bedford, restaurants here in New Bedford, can order authentic Jewish baked goods online.
Tim WeisbergHOST
5:12
But the story yesterday was that Chris Cox, who is the CEO of Hasbro, appeared on WBRR's morning show last week.
Tim WeisbergHOST
5:26
And during the conversation, he was asked what he thought employees would appreciate most about moving from Pawtucket to Boston.
Tim WeisbergHOST
5:33
And his response was, and this comes from WPRI, his response was, this sounds silly, but you know, just being able to walk outside and having a dozen places that she used to eat.
Tim WeisbergHOST
5:46
This is giving me trouble.
Tim WeisbergHOST
6:48
But it took a lot longer than I would have expected to.
Dan McGowanGUEST
0:43
And sometimes you maybe get a little carried away.
Dan McGowanGUEST
0:46
I think in this case, I think Chris Cox probably regrets a bunch of things that he said about Pawtucket.
Dan McGowanGUEST
0:53
You know, he was trying to make the case that Boston is this very attractive place with lots of options for eating and drinking and, you know, fun after work, all true, no question about it, certainly compared to Pawtucket.
Dan McGowanGUEST
1:04
But he really felt the need to go the extra mile to compare Pawtucket to Boston.
Dan McGowanGUEST
1:13
Look, I was pretty offended by it.
Dan McGowanGUEST
1:14
I also thought it was a disgrace.
Dan McGowanGUEST
1:15
And I know this is a very local parochial thing to say.
Dan McGowanGUEST
1:19
But for the CEO of a company that's been in Pawtucket for 100 years to not once but multiple times in that interview not be able to pronounce Pawtucket correctly, uh i think was a sign that this is a guy who clearly did not care or think very highly of the place that made that company and so uh you know a little bit of an easy column to write you know you write it for the locals here but i do i you know i i think it's disappointing because while they had every right to move um Let's be honest, Rhode Island was very good to Hasbro over the last, certainly over the last several decades.
Matt AllenHOST

Mayor Grabian is seeing his final days as mayor of the city of Pawtucket, getting no love from Hasbro.
Matt AllenHOST
0:08
He joins us online right now.
Matt AllenHOST
0:09
Mayor, how are you?
Don GrebienGUEST
3:19
We were trying to get an understanding of what they want.
Don GrebienGUEST
3:22
You know, we have a lot of incubators.
Don GrebienGUEST
3:24
We have a lot of manufacturing that is growing here in the city of Pawtucket and the state of Maryland, but they don't have that big.
Don GrebienGUEST
3:30
It's 350,000 square feet.
Don GrebienGUEST
3:31
So we talked about incubator space.
Gene ValicentiHOST
2:11

Gene ValicentiHOST
2:28
Mayor, what do you make of what the CEO of Hasbro had to say about Rhode Island and Pawtucket? They had offices in your city.
Gene ValicentiHOST
2:36
They were right downtown.
Gene ValicentiHOST
2:37
They were in the building.
Gene ValicentiHOST
2:43
The guy was a jerk on the way out.
Brett SmileyGUEST
2:44
Yeah, it was not a very classy way to leave a place that has been home for more than 100 years.
Brett SmileyGUEST
2:53
For that company, certainly for the community of Pawtucket, it felt pretty insulting.
Brett SmileyGUEST
2:58
And for the many, many families in Rhode Island that... either currently work for Hasbro or have roots working for Hasbro.
John DePetroHOST
8:15
They're on call 24 hours.
John DePetroHOST
8:18
The other departments, we've covered Cranston, Pawtucket, Warwick, things like that.
John DePetroHOST
8:24
They have to call the person and then, you know, come in and have them deal with it.
John DePetroHOST
8:32
So we'll come back to this because there are two other stories that I do.

36 MINS LATER

John DePetroHOST
44:55
I mean, I guess it's possible, but you have to wonder when someone is filming that, if it turns out he was just filming it for his own enjoyment, then they're going to have that to deal with.
John DePetroHOST
45:13
But if it turns out that the reason that police found out, or I was being shared well that that could be a problem and then the people receiving it could then that's what i mean could be a problem let's just say you're a work firefighter i don't know pick a different fire station wherever and you're doing whatever and suddenly your phone beeps or makes a sound you look and you know oh it's a text from matt cavanaugh And it's him with whoever.
John DePetroHOST
46:00
Is this the first time he sent it? Are you the only one he's sending it to? Do you then send that to another firefighter and they send it to Cranston? Is Cranston sending it to Pawtucket? Like now it gets very problematic.
John DePetroHOST
46:20
And what I wanted to say was the person that I spoke to was saying that they think a lot of, They're under the belief that a lot of the individuals involved may not have recognized the seriousness of they just think.
Tim WeisbergHOST
1:08
If you remember, about...
Tim WeisbergHOST
1:11
Three years ago, almost four years ago now, we had Jason Sugarman on the program to talk with us about what was then the upcoming arrival of Maven's Delicatessen in Pawtucket, a Jewish deli that was thinking about how to rethink the game a little bit in the deli presentation.
Tim WeisbergHOST
1:29
And now he's expanded to Maven's Jr. on Thayer Street in Providence.
Tim WeisbergHOST
1:34
They've been selling sandwiches at the stadium in Rhode Island.

13 MINS LATER

Tim WeisbergHOST
14:12
He is the founder, the creator, the genius behind Maven's Delicatessen.
Tim WeisbergHOST
14:16
And if you have never been there, I cannot recommend it enough.
Tim WeisbergHOST
14:19
It's in Pawtucket.
Tim WeisbergHOST
14:20
There's also Maven's Jr. on Thayer Street in Providence.
Tim WeisbergHOST
36:53
And not only are we going to have our Wet Nose Wednesday segment in the 8 o'clock hour after the 8.30 news with Melissa Vieira, but we are also going to have in the beginning of the 8 o'clock hour, we're going to be joined by Jason Sugarman.
Tim WeisbergHOST
37:05
He is the man behind Maven's Delicatessen, which opened up a few years ago in Pawtucket.
Tim WeisbergHOST
37:11
And then he opened up another location on Thayer Street in Providence.
Tim WeisbergHOST
37:15
And now he's opening up in Pawtucket a new wholesale operation.
Tim WeisbergHOST
37:21
So Mavens is one of the very few... jewish delis that we have in the area and if you remember a couple years ago when we had jason on the on the air to talk about it he talked about how there's nowhere to get the the breads and the bagels and the things that he needs to be able to offer the the type of food that he wanted to offer so he said you know we're probably gonna have to start making all this stuff ourselves and and they do And they do very well with it, so they've decided now to open up a wholesale operation.
Tim WeisbergHOST
37:54
So not only will they be making more of that for use in the Maven's locations, but they're opening it up to other businesses as well.
Tim WeisbergHOST
38:22
And some of the other things that they're going to be offering.
Tim WeisbergHOST
38:25
And if you are interested, they're going to be delivering.
Trevor KelseyHOST
32:34

Trevor KelseyHOST
32:37
