Pauline epistles

For that all have sinned.

This is how the principle is explained in the Pauline Epistle.

This one man.

This one man.

And so we had literate people that could follow along.

My job in translation was all of the New Testament, particularly the Pauline Epistles and the first five books of the Bible called the Pentateuch.

And so I was about a week ahead when we were teaching.

I was one week ahead in the translation process.

Here beginneth the first chapter of the book of the Epistle of Paul to the Colossians

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the saints and faithful brothers in Christ at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father.

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven.

Look at what Paul said.

At the zenith of his apostolic ministry, he said, "That I may know Him." Question: What do we have till today, even as matured believers, we continue to explore the Pauline epistles.

I hope you know what you call the Pauline epistles was a man's contemplation, his understanding by the Holy Ghost.

Yet Paul, who wrote two-thirds of the New Testament, here's what he had to say about his life, "That I may know Him." There were still other dimensions he did not know, and the power of His resurrection.

And the fellowship of his sufferings, he says, being made conformable even unto his death.

Number one, when the eyes of your understanding are enlightened from that knowledge, you will know the hope of your calling is hidden in that story.

You will know the riches of the glory of the inheritance of the saints.

They are all hidden there, but if you just read it as a story, you will just read it as Pauline Epistle.

The Cyrinthians, like the Marcionists, admitted not the acts of the apostles.

The Encratites and the Savenians adopted neither the acts nor the epistles of Paul.

Chrysostom, in a homily which he made upon the acts of the apostles, says that in his time, about the year 400, many people knew nothing either of the author or of the book.

St. Irene, who lived before that time, reports that the Valentinians, like several other sects of the Christians, accused the Scriptures of being filled with imperfections, errors, and contradictions.

The Ebionites, or Nazarenes, who were the first Christians, rejected all the epistles of Paul and regarded him as an imposter.

They report, among other things, that he was originally a pagan, that he came to Jerusalem, where he lived some time, and that having a mind to marry the daughter of the high priest, he had himself been circumcised, but that not being able to obtain her, he quarreled with the Jews and wrote against circumcision and against the observation of the Sabbath and against all the legal ordinances.

But as this fits quite as well as the bite and the kick in Genesis, or the virgin and her son in Isaiah, it will pass in the lump of orthodox things.

One note that we made previously with the general epistles is that it can be helpful to think through books, why they were written, what purpose is behind them, what the situation seems to be that the author is addressing.

And we can identify the same thing in the Pauline epistles.

And so some of it could just be a great place to start is what letter do you think is going to most directly address the season or situation that someone is in? Ephesians is a great place to begin because it's pretty general.

An experimental morning convinced him that his privacy had again been invaded.

Most certainly, he had not located Simpkins' commentary on the Pauline Epistles to the left of his chair, and buried it, moreover, beneath a staggering load of medieval histories.

Simpkins was a most useful man, always to be kept atop the pile on the armchair at his right.

Other subtle but incriminating evidence cropped up on every hand.

But this appeared to be the case.

Trimmer was setting forth the matter circumstantially and at great length, in phraseology borrowed indiscriminately from Milton's Paradise Lost, the Psalms, and the Pauline Epistles.

He spoke of his miraculous conversion from the way of sinners, of his blessed experiences since he first met the Lord, of his godly sorrow over lost souls, passing on after a brief but pointed allusion to the heathen in foreign lands to the condition of the Presbyterian Church in Innesfield.
