He had clients like Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, and Frank Sinatra.

He charged more for a haircut than most people spent on groceries in a week.

He franchised the name, and he had a salon on Fairfax that men flew in for.

One thing I remember from when I was 11, 12 years old is that my parents took me to this movie called The Sting, which is sort of like a 1970s version of Ocean's Eleven.

And it stars Paul Newman and Robert Redford, who's like the Brad Pitt and George Clooney of the 70s, right? And it's this movie about con artists.

And there's a few sort of cons that they play in the movie, but the movie itself plays with the trust of the viewer.

And the movie just completely blew my mind.

We were talking about Pool yesterday, and one of my favorite Pool movies is the sequel to The Hustler.

The movie was made by Martin Scorsese called The Color of Money with Paul Newman.

And Tom Cruise, yeah.

Tom Cruise, yeah, and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.

And just a beautiful, beautiful scene of life being a pool hall hustler and teaching Paul Newman, teaching Tom Cruise how to be a pool hall hustler.

The opening narration is short, but it pulls you in.

to the movie so hard let me just give you a little taste of that the opening voiceover was nine ball is rotation pool the balls are pocketed in numbered order the only ball that means anything that wins it is the nine now the player can shoot eight trick shots in a row below the nine and lose on the other hand the player can get the nine in on the break if the ball spread right and win, which is to say that luck plays a part in nine ball.

And the movie just picks up from there.

I think they're cool.

They have a really cool Paul Newman kind of feel, but sometimes they feel big and like they're wearing the watch.

So what we did is we have a line of buns coming out that we designed right to fit smoothly along the side of the watch.

Oh, that looks great.

I think this is an old school look that people aren't really doing anymore that I'm a big, big fan of.

But in 2024, I looked at the 100 most popular TV shows in the United States to find how many of them depict a father As at least occasionally competent, responsible, knowledgeable.

Out of 100 shows, I found one, Blue Blood, starring Tom Selleck, which at least occasionally depicts a father as knowledgeable and competent.

covered? I think this is where you and I differ because I keep coming back to it's a toxic culture.

The culture has changed.

We don't have the culture of Paul Newman and Sidney Poitier.

We have the culture of Drake and Eminem.

She was in a lot of good movies, man.

She was in The Hustler with Paul Newman.

She was in Klute.

Um, man, she did some great work.

We won't spend too much time on this, but like I mentioned, came out later in 86.

This got Paul Newman his Oscar final.
