I think it's also to do with, I think Paul English was saying this, the sort of industrial nature of Glasgow, right? Like a heavily industrialised workforce and a heavily unionised workforce as well.

You have a level of... sort of political education and kind of understanding of the power of unions and direct action and strikes and kind of industrial disputes I think also there's something to it's something to do with the actual geography of the city as well or not the geography the architecture see a tenement see like Glasgow and Edinburgh it's something like 70% of people live in flats right and in England it's much lower it's like a much much lower percentage and i do think this is like my pet theory it's like living in a flat forces you to interact with people on a daily basis some of whom you can't you would rather not interact with you know i mean like you don't love all your neighbors everybody's had an annoying neighbor or somebody in the coast that they can't be arsed with it's just the nature of it but you just have to get on with it and You're constantly interacting with living alongside people who are not like you as well in a way that you're not able to separate yourself from the rest of the city and the rest of the community and the way you are if you've got a house, a detached house, and it's like a car-centric place.
