A lot of people seem a bit confused by the ending of last week's episode with Paul Brady.

I would say.

Did he or did he not bark like a dog at the end of the show? Did an actual dog momentarily wander into studio just to catch some of Paul's music? Let's play the clip.

On second listen, I'm pretty sure that's Paul Brady himself, one of Ireland's greatest musicians, barking like a dog at the end of our chat.

And maybe World Gone Wrong is a little more of an American record, but not totally.

And I interestingly, I kind of found out recently that that version of Arthur McBride, he did, of course, cop that from Paul Brady, that great Irish musician, Um, but Paul Brady's source is actually American.

It was actually a field recording from, from California.

Uh, Sidney Robertson Cowell, I think it was that guy's name who was like a documentarian in the teens and twenties who was making, uh, field recordings of Irish musicians in California and like the twenties.

While other poor fellows go dirty and mean.

And several thin girls in the mall.

I saw Paul Brady in the audience at Bob Dylan's Dublin show last year.

And I got into a lot of folk like John Martin.

And then I ended up sort of back in Ireland with Paul Brady and Planckstein and stuff like that, which I didn't really grow up listening to that much.

And so strangely enough, this is the song that kind of got me into Irish music.

Neil Jordan, I'm a huge fan of Neil Jordan, both his films, of course, but also his writing, and he and I started out around about the same time.

And Paul Brady had the pleasure of writing the introduction to his memoir.

He's quite brilliant.

Paul Brady started off singing Irish folk songs basically, but then his work became more and more political.

And, um, this is one of his, I find most haunting probably, but one- also one of his most political songs.

It, well, it parallels the war in Lebanon with the troubles in Ireland, but it's basically about this guy who wants to go to this island with his girlfriend and just pretend that none of it exists.

Now we're still at it in our own place.
