Paul Bonner

Um, but there's interesting stuff there.

Um, I know, uh, Paul Bonner, um, classic artist.

He's also done stuff for games workshop before is doing the cover for the new, uh, Confrontation, Incarnation, Rackham setting book.

So there's going to be a rule book for the Skirmish game, but there's also going to be a separate world book they're doing.

My guest today, Johan Eggekrantz, is one such person, whose amazing artistic career has been informed in part by a lifelong love for Warhammer.

After an early childhood spent drawing monsters from under the bed, Johan discovered the incredible orc artwork of Paul Bonner and the 40k illustrations of John Blanche and Adrian Smith and many other artists like them.

And needless to say, his own work would never be the same again.

Now famous for his remarkable illustrations of folkloric monsters and fabled creatures, which have since been turned into the phenomenally successful Nordic horror RPG Vassen by Free League, Johan still spends his hobby time painting space marines and converting weirdos from the fringes of the 40k universe.

But I think when I was smaller, when I was a kid, I didn't really get it because it was too Uncomfortable? Creepy? There was something about it.

I mean, you felt attracted to John's drawings and Adrian Smith's drawings, but they were, at the same time, they were quite off-putting and creepy and weird.

It was much easier to like Paul Bonner or just Goodwin's sketches or Mark Gibbons' more sort of cartoony sort of...

As you grow older, you start appreciating the weird stuff.
