Paul Allen

Context for the scene.

Patrick Bateman, an investment banking executive/psychopath in the late '80s Manhattan, recently killed his work nemesis, Paul Allen.

But Patrick's efforts to cover up the murder may have fallen short.

A detective assigned to Paul's disappearance seems to suspect him, so Patrick hires two sex workers, one to pretend to be Paul's girlfriend and the other to join them.

He tries and fails to murder two other people.

Now, Patrick's thirst for blood is at an all-time high.

He rehires a reluctant Christie to join him and a yuppie female friend at Paul Allen's apartment.

After drugging their wine, he brings them into Paul's bedroom.

Like there's a chapter on Phil Collins.

That scene right before he kills Paul Allen or Jared Leto, that little shuffle dance thing that he does is just incredible.

So that movie's just something.

Last one I'll mention was for the podcast, Frequels.

Not to butternut.

Oh, don't tell Paul.

Paul will show up and tell him, too.

Paul?

Like Paul Allen?

Yes.

Is his name Paul on this, too?

Mm-hmm.

And Nicole made the very good point, for instance, that Bateman is constantly trying to win the affirmation or the praise or the respect of his male friends.

This is such an interesting point, that actually a- all that Patrick Bateman does, his dress, his suits, his, um, you know, the skincare, it is done to impress the Paul, the Paul, we're saying Paul Allen or, like, these other, McDermott or these people.

Not Evelyn and women.

No.

Hmm.

Let's see Paul Allen's pickle.

[laughs] See, the, the... there's still like a spark of genius here, you know, uh, mixing pickles with-

Let's see Paul Allen's pickle

... with, uh, [laughs] pickle.

And the fidelity is remarkable.

So we'll see.

Let's see Paul Allen's retention graph.

A

question for both of you.

Yeah, I got it.

In the 2000 film American Psycho, Patrick Bateman delivers a detailed critique of Huey Lewis and the news before murdering his co-worker, Paul Allen, to this upbeat 1986 song.

What is Billie Jean? And no, I know it's not Michael Jackson.

Hip to be square.

I like love so many of our layers.

But today I'm going to go with Paul Allen's Apartment in American Psycho because it's better than Patrick Bateman's.

Okay.

And explain a little bit more.

It's on our list.

American Psycho is one of my favorites.

But our main man, Patrick Bateman, he is so envious because Paul Allen has a better apartment than him, and he kills Paul Allen and assumes his identity.

Right.
