Patton State Hospital

Now, yes, he got cleared of this, but this case never really left him.

He, in 1954, had a breakdown, and his wife ended, she ended up committing him to Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino.

Oh, wow.

Later that year he was at the Brentwood VA Hospital, and they gave him a truth serum and questioned him about Beth again, and he was cleared again.

And, but yeah, in this case here, first stage is typically, this is typically, I never can say typically nowadays, but what happens is you're not competent.

Sometimes you get to go to like Patton State Hospital a few months and then come back and they decide you're more competent by then.

But here they're going to have a lot of experts, it sounds, trying to argue about, hey, is she Is he, in lay terms, crazy? Or does she have a mental health condition which makes her incompetent? Or not able at this time to try? And so you're going to see all that argued out.

That can take time.

And I began then to select a number of different assessments from different publishers so that you could cross-validate and not rely on one instrument.

So as I kind of built my practice and kind of went through that process, even I spent a year at Patton State Hospital, not as an inmate, which is criminally insane, but assessing individuals who had committed crimes.

And we used a variety of instruments.

And those instruments each had their own specialty.
