Patrick Modiano

But of course, it's, as we've been discussing, it's always ambivalent.

And you and I were part of a discussion of a great novel by Patrick Modiano, the French author who won the Nobel Prize not that long ago, called In the Café of Lost Youth.

which is very much a novel about Paris.

And the Cafe of Lost Youth is also, it's not just a cafe that has been lost in time.

I can't get into all of the works that I studied in the book, but I'd like to highlight a few names.

Brigitte Friant, Louis Malle, Patrick Modiano, Marguerite Duras are my favorite French troublemakers.

Zoe Wickham's David's Story in the South African context, but also Vladislavich's Restless Supermarket stand out for me as fantastic.

work of artistically sabotaging and caring for memory.
