Patrick Lencioni

It's the environment where... individuals feel they are able to ask a difficult question, ask a silly question, to share a view that may or may not be shared by anyone else around the room and not feel like they're being judged for a viewpoint, a question, or that they will feel that they're being diminished because they bring something to the table.

So that they can ask a question, they'll get an answer that is not... that is not diminishing the fact that they had to ask the question in the first place, right? And all of that comes from, are you familiar with Lencioni's Dysfunctions of a Team? So I won't necessarily go into all of the details, but there's a pyramid, essentially, and the basic fundamentals and principles foundations of the pyramid is about trust.

Trust is the basic fundamental of a team.

If you don't feel that you are operating in a team where trust is shared.

'Cause we're not only seeing each other, but we're seeing ourselves more effectively, and so that connection between...

And y- you talk to any of these common friends of ours, like take Pat Lencioni, like he started his work, you know, more on the teams and organizational side.

Mm-hmm.

And he's even arrived at this place where trust begins within the leader.

But they're one of the few companies in the US that are 100% employee owned.

They lived and breathed the five dysfunctions of the team that Patrick Lencioni talks about in his book.

So we went in there and we spent four hours just watching and listening to how they run their business.

And the leaders walked out of there and went, wow, that was just so informative.

I normally look at high-performing teams or the functions of high-performing teams.

I use Patrick Lencioni's model.

I talked about the trust equation.

If you go and look at all the high-performing team models or most of the high-performing team models in the literature, for example, Lencioni's five dysfunctions of a team, at the bottom of his pyramid is trust, 'cause trust is the currency of leadership.
