A great example of this is how Patrick Grant has structured the community clothing business.

He's built the whole business model on filling the downtime at the factories that he works with.

So like go to the knitwear factory when the knitwear factory is quiet, January, February, March.

But, I mean, had she not even won, having Patrick say that stuff about your sewing and your creativity, that's a win in itself.

Knowing that Patrick Grant has that, those... feelings and opinions about the stuff that you sew that is a win in itself um so yeah i think she did an amazing job well-deserved winner and yeah i can't wait to see what the future brings for her i think she'll be a fantastic costume designer she needs to get snapped up by a theater somewhere i could even see her doing like costumes for film sets

It would also mean that smaller companies that want to make in the UK would still have factories to go to in a decade's time because a new generation of machinists would be coming through the ranks.

That's the kind of thing that government procurement can do, which I think is totally spot on.

And the reason that Cookson's has survived since then is that it was able to pivot to making other garments to keep their staff busy.

In 2012, I consulted with M&S on a Best of British collection, which was all made in the UK, and Cookson & Clegg made raincoats and jeans for it.

Patrick Grant then bought the factory in 2015 and started community clothing.

The factory also made some PPE during COVID, but sadly, after the pandemic, those contracts didn't continue.
