There actually is.

Dr. Patrick Carnes devised the addiction cycle.

It actually begins with the wound itself.

It begins with shame.

Now, as I have talked about, not only in this series, but in many other videos, the cycle of the narcissistic relationship, idealize, devalue, discard, Hoover, and then started all over again, is very similar to the cycle of addiction.

And in fact, the term trauma bonding was initially coined by someone named Dr. Patrick Carnes, and his work was very much focused on sex and love addiction.

But again, it gets at this idea of the addictive cycle of an unhealthy relationship.

Now, in a healthy relationship, which someday may end because healthy relationships do sometimes end, the ties aren't as convoluted and twisted because they are not traumatic bonds.

And I think that's part of what plays into addictive behavior for some people.

And I cite this doctor often, Dr. Patrick Carnes.

He's a world-renowned and leading authority on sexual addiction and betrayal trauma.

But he discovered a huge overlap between trauma and sex addiction.

they could say they earned a certificate from an organization anyone can start an organization so there's nothing wrong with that however the more important question is your is the organization respected in the field of sex therapy now one of the most um... substantial and well-known sex experts is this man.

His name is Dr. Patrick Carnes.

And this guy knows everything really that there is to know.

And I'm actually going to put his face up there.

So Dr. Patrick Carnes, interestingly, this name has come up several times.

I think I've got a share there, JT.

Um, so Dr. Patrick Carnes is, um, he's the founder and father of sexual addiction therapy.

He's written books and he kind of is whom people consider to be one of the highest levels of understanding, uh, this kind of addiction.

And I was like, oh my God, everything in here.

I had read the Patrick Carnes books by then.

And let's call it, I dallied around in recovery a little bit, but I hadn't really tried, right? I did enough so my wife thought I was doing something.

So I want to ask you a question about that.

We call it the red zone, green zone plan.

That's a Dr. Patrick Carnes term.

But we just help them optimize their green zone plan.

And that honestly, that's kind of the gateway to all the other work that we do after that.
