Anything to get in their mileage on their heart rate.

Parker Valby, right, one of the best, uh, American NCAA distance runners, she had a number of injuries during her career at Florida, and she just graduated and turned pro I think in the last two years, give or take.
C
42:55Chris RyanGUEST
But guess what she did? I shit you not.
C

She did for most of her training, you can read about it, and Runner's World had a great article on her two or three years ago.

And this is an off year.
J
32:29Jonathan GaultHOST
So, you know, if you are going to have a year where you're not racing that much, this is probably the best year to do it.
J

But do you consider this year a success for Parker Valby or do you, how do you assess it? Robert?

I would love it if they could find some sort of middle ground, but I do think the 5K is just one of those races where it's like, I remember it was Ellie St. Pierre.
M
43:47Megan Connolly MorantHOST
She ran the 15, she ran the 5K, and then Parker Valby came back and she ran the 10K and the 5K.
M
43:53Megan Connolly MorantHOST
It's just a lot of racing for those athletes.

And then if they're going to go on to represent the country at the Olympics, I think it can take something away from their Olympic performance if they're already doing that much racing at the trials just a couple of months ahead.

I, I'm really interested to see how this is going to affect people doubling, because to me, this is more enticing, right? If there's not a 5k final or excuse me, if there's not a 5k prelim, I think how could we not see like so many more people trying to strike while the iron's hot here, you now only have to do one 5k and then maybe like two rounds of the 1500 or one 10K on a different day.
R
54:00Rachel DaDamioHOST
the 10 K being on a different day is huge because think about someone like, I mean, Parker Valby, our favorite person to talk about on the podcast, but she run, she's like, I think very competitive in the 10 K and maybe, I mean, she's still competitive in the five K, but her race in the five K fresh, she has a much better shot at making it than, you know, having to run a 10 K even like a week earlier is still, it's still really close.

EP9 - marathon sessions, fuelling, a half marathon world record and the diamond league returns

Is there an idea of it? you get an idea of like what your zones are and stuff like that um so i've done a couple of them just because it's like a nice way to go hard on the bike and kind of feel motivated about it and um yeah just nice way to get the heart rate up because i think that's what i miss is that like it's a good feeling is that in running when you push yourself to the max like i love that in a session and i like easy running as well i really enjoy going for a nice easy run outside but yeah it's it's it's also really fun to just push yourself so and trying to get that from the bike
R
7:33RusselHOST
yeah yeah no and I mean we spoke last time didn't we about Parker Valby as an example of someone who does minimal running and when she was injured she did all her sessions on the on the elliptical
E
7:47ElleHOST
yeah I think the elliptical is meant to be good in that i guess it mimics the movement of running a bit more um i was listening to another podcast with you know marius bakken who's written the books about the norwegian method which i need to read uh it's kind of easier to just listen to a podcast where he talks about it uh and he was talking about cross training and how um yeah like anything that kind of mimics the running movement is i guess preferred so he was talking about how like in Norway because they do cross-country skiing and stuff and that's all really beneficial um so yeah I just I just have a bike at home rather than elliptical so it's easier to go on the bike but
R
8:34RusselHOST
and you can still yeah I mean you can still do it on the bike like you say elliptical yes it mimics the actual motion but if it's just the case of looking to get your heart rate up yeah exactly
