Paris in the Middle Ages

So tonight I want to ask a question that sounds a bit unhinged at first.

Was Medieval Paris basically a ranked lobby for killers? If you have ever played an online competitive game, you know how ranked play works.

Everybody gets a rank.

Bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond.

Same map, same weapons, same rules on paper.

But your rank decides who you get matched against, what you can get away with, and how hard the system comes down on you when you mess up.

And when you start digging into the crime records, chronicles, pardons, and court cases of medieval Paris, a very similar pattern appears.

Killing was against the law, obviously.
