RANKED: I Watched Every Blumhouse Horror Movie

In addition to found footage, we also get a sneaky swinging light fixture and the witch's creepy basement, which plays a part in Jesse's possession and, unfortunately, keeps him from getting laid.

The last theatrical Paranormal Activity film to date, though one is on the release schedule for next year from the director of Undertone, is Paranormal Activity, The Ghost Dimension, which is inarguably one of the dumbest subtitles for any horror movie ever.
D
12:49Dan MurrellHOST
This one takes place in 2013 in what is revealed to be a new house built over the ruins of Katie and Christy's old house in Santa Rosa, which is still teeming with, you guessed it, paranormal activity.
D
13:01Dan MurrellHOST
And given that this is the sixth movie in the franchise, you can almost hear the pitch for this movie to Paramount executives.
D
14:28Dan MurrellHOST
I just really can't come up with anything redeemable about this movie.
D
14:31Dan MurrellHOST
And that is the metric I use when determining what movies go in the dreaded F tier.
D
14:38Dan MurrellHOST
True to its back to formula mission, the Ghost Dimension once again features all three Blumhouse standbys, found footage, of course, multiple spooky light fixtures, and a creepy garage.

So check off all three boxes.
Paranormathon Finale ( Next of Kin)

this is the the the tempiest of checks because we are basically done at this point and boy did we come out of a doozy of a twofer last time so i'm very interested in hearing where you're out with the series i think i know but yeah i would still love to hear it from your mouth where are you
R
6:42RoshaneHOST
no that's fine that's fine um yeah so ghost dimension was a bit of a stinker unfortunately and it was also on the heels of marked ones that we talked about a lot last week so we were in a bit of a sad state um but talking realistically coming back to next of kin this time around uh i had only ever watched this film one time and that was for one of our year in reviews and to be honest similar to ghost dimension Didn't fully remember how I felt about it because like I remembered most of the movie for the most part But there were still gaps in my memory about my personal reception To next of kin and so I was a little bit Excited but also cautious going back into it because I felt like if I had loved it.
R
7:35RoshaneHOST
I would have remembered loving it and I Due to that, I was a little bit worried going into it.
R
7:44RoshaneHOST
But on the upside, I knew for a fact that we couldn't really get much worse than Ghost Dimension.
R
7:51RoshaneHOST
So whatever was in Next of Kin was going to be an improvement.
R
7:56RoshaneHOST
I just wasn't...
R
8:01RoshaneHOST
I was excited to revisit this one, mostly because of the fact that in my previous watch, I was a little bit enamored in how different this movie is while still trying to be paranormal activity.
R
8:13RoshaneHOST
And I think that's going to be an interesting discussion to have today is whether or not this new approach actually worked in the grand scheme of things.

J

I might be confusing that with something else, but I think that is that one.
J
43:15Jacob WhiteHOST
And there's another one called The Ghost Dimension.
J
43:17Jacob WhiteHOST
I don't remember the story for this one, but it's this camera.
J
43:19Jacob WhiteHOST
You can actually see the ghosts.
Lin Shaye: The New Face of Fear

So just looking ahead, the fourth film, The Last Key, that's directed by Adam Robitel, who did The Taking of Deborah Logan and Escape Room.
J
64:27Jake TropilaGUEST
And also the Escape Room sequel, and he co-wrote the Paranormal Activity Ghost Dimension.
J
64:33Jake TropilaGUEST
The fifth film is directed by Patrick Wilson, and the sixth film is directed by Jacob Chase, who did something called Come Play a few years ago.
J

So I guess they just kind of got a horror guy who would say yes to anything that looks like.
Paranormathon 3 (The Marked Ones and Ghost Dimension)

of the marked ones
R
1:29RoshaneHOST
and i just wanted a reason to re-watch it and i'm excited to actually discuss it but two um of all the paranormal activity films The ghost dimension was the one going into all of this that I felt like I remembered the least of.
R
1:46RoshaneHOST
And I didn't know if that was for good or bad reasons.
R
1:50RoshaneHOST
And now I know.
E
2:13EricaHOST
I have seen one, but haven't seen the other.
E
2:16EricaHOST
So I'd seen the marked ones before, remembered very little about it, but kind of how in Paranormal Activity 4, I remembered very specific moments rather than the overall plot.
E
2:30EricaHOST
That's how I felt about the marked ones, but to sort of a less... lesser degree because i remembered even less about the marked ones but the one thing that stood out my mind was brother gets superpowers kind of like that's the part of it that i kind of recalled is that in a way my man's becomes a superhero uh for a hot minute and then ghost dimension I don't...
E
2:55EricaHOST
I didn't know her at all.
Paranormal Activity: Turn On the Damn Lights, Guys!

E
95:03EricaHOST

Episode 288: Paranormal Activity
R
2:26Ryan StaceyHOST
This is probably the best one, uh, though I do like 2, 3, and 5, Marked Ones.
R
2:31Ryan StaceyHOST
But the rest, 4, Ghost Dimension, and Next of Kin are all kinda bad.
R
2:36Ryan StaceyHOST
So, you know, we'll be in for an interesting ride with this franchise.
