He's a huge Bolsonaro supporter.

Remember, Bolsonaro made him his justice minister.

The sugar belt is just a little bit further south than the coffee belt.

Paraná is usually affected by extra rainfall, but Sao Paulo, the northern part of Sao Paulo is not always affected and that's the core of the sugar belt.

So yeah, we've seen some delays in the sugar can harvest, some disruptions, we might see more of that.

We need to see how Brazil manages to wrap up the harvest towards the end of the year and how much more rainfall there will be.

A LATAM Airlines, uh, Airbus A320 carrying 151 people ran off the runway while landing in heavy rain at Cascavel Airport in southern Brazil on the 31st of August.

The aircraft was operating as flight LA3858 from São Paulo to Cascavel in the western part of Paraná State when it left the paved surface at around 9:45 local time.

The Airbus A320-214 registered Papa Romeo Mike Yankee Oscar came to a stop on rain-soaked ground alongside the runway with its landing gear partially sunk into the mud.

LATAM said 145 passengers and crew members were aboard.

We're already hearing reports of planting starting in the state of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul.

And in the case of Rio Grande do Sul, there's a lot of first crop corn that's already being planted.

And so they can get an early start.

Now, longer term seasonal rainfall tendencies aren't quite as optimistic where in El Nino, Weather patterns, you typically see it wetter to the south and drier to the north.

And this is essentially confirming that from what I can see, looking out to the end of the year, you're seeing below average in the Santa West region and Goyas and Maragroso.

And you're seeing above average kind of center over Paraná and basically Paraguay right here and these areas.

And so I think that southern Brazil and Argentina could, you know, help offset some of those potential yield impacts from drought into the north, but just not, in my opinion, not all of it.

It's interestingly a common story in these places.

It's actually funny because there are some families and I live nowadays, I live in Santa Catarina, which is a southern state in Brazil, but I grew up in Paraná, which is another southern state.

uh and what i mean about that is that those states are primarily uh italian and german immigration and santa catarina has like the hugest german immigration in the world it's like it's a lot it's um it has the second biggest october fest so you can't understand the level of it But the thing is that it's funny that a lot of families who are Jewish families who came developed some sort of non-spoken crypto-Judaism here in the region.

It's a very small thing because there are really few Jews in my state.
