panta rhei

The Flux This endless process of transformation was summed up by the Greeks in two words, not known to have been used by Heraclitus himself, but admirably expressing his philosophy.

Panta rei, all things flow.

In some instances the universal flux is attested by the evidence of our senses.

No man bathes twice in the same river.

Everything is constantly changing.

His famous catchphrase was Panta Rei, everything flows.

You can't step into the same river twice, because new water is always flowing in.

The universe is pure fire and chaos.
