well because they stopped playing the game almost immediately and then I mean I think that the basic premise of a slasher movie where a bunch of people are killed and you have to figure out who the killer is and the twist is there is no killer is like pretty fun as just a general premise but I feel like maybe the execution here I don't know I think they should have given the script to me for some notes

I actually, I was talking to my friends about this movie last night after we went and saw the re-release of Pan's Labyrinth.
Korama DanquahGUEST
21:16
And one of my friends likened it to The Odyssey.
Korama DanquahGUEST
21:20
He was like, oh, it's The Odyssey, which we thought was a joke because I had just talked about how I realized that one of my favorite childhood films was an adaptation of The Odyssey.

totally cool he's also like one of the hardest workers i've ever met and she like she has like no like block on like what she like like i feel like i've never seen her be like yeah that seems like it would be too hard you know yeah that's great she's just like okay yeah so i guess we'll get 20 people to pick this thing up over here and we'll do like this is like a problem solver instead of like a problem pointer out there yeah you know
David VollrathGUEST
35:11
that's cool Yeah, and then the last day is Guillermo Navarro, who shot Pan's Labyrinth and Pacific Rim, and I think he's directing now.
David VollrathGUEST
35:19
But yeah, so, and then on Wednesday, we go to the film lab and we look at everything we shot.
Oren KaplanHOST
35:25
Oh, so you guys are actually shooting stuff in the class, like on...

Just a reminder.
Sean ParkerHOST

Mimi is a Mostly Horror alum that you may remember from our chat about Pan's Labyrinth back in the day.
Sean ParkerHOST
1:53
That was like a year, almost a year and a half ago.
Sean ParkerHOST
1:56
That's crazy.
Mimi DybsGUEST
1:57
Lots changed, clearly.
Sean ParkerHOST
1:59
Yep.
Sean ParkerHOST
2:00
We talked about Pan's Labyrinth and, well, literally everything else under the sun.
Sean ParkerHOST
2:03
We talked about thoughts on crime.

And those were scenes from Nosferatu, a symphony of horror, starring Doug Jones, our guest on the show, as that infamous vampire, the famed actor, contortionist, and mime artist specializing in non-human creatures on screen, in a conversation about the re-release on this 20th anniversary of Nosferatu.

of Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro's gothic classic with political bite, Pan's Labyrinth, and Doug's challenging simultaneous depiction in the film of both good and evil apparitions, the pale man symbolizing fascism, the brutality of dictator Franco's regime in post-Civil War Spain, and also Pan the Fawn in opposition to fascism.
Prairie MillerHOST
14:12
Jones likewise reflects on the legacy that seems to have been passed down to him from late screen legend Lon Chaney as the man of many faces and why.
Prairie MillerHOST
14:24
First a little from Pan's Labyrinth, then Doug Jones.

And she finds a way to escape and trump in the end that makes us all feel like, you know what, maybe I could do the same in my life.
Doug JonesGUEST
18:00
That's the state and power this movie has had, I think.
Greg NicoteroGUEST
9:23
And you know that it's a fairy tale and it's a fable.
Greg NicoteroGUEST
9:25
And you're getting a glimpse into his interpretation of that world, just like The Devil's Backbone and just like Pan's Labyrinth, other movies that are his that are fables.
Greg NicoteroGUEST
9:39
And it's that passion to tell that story and to download that material.
Greg NicoteroGUEST
9:45
I think it just comes out of those filmmakers.
Diana KochHOST
30:48
She's great at playing a lady in distress, for sure.
Diana KochHOST
30:52
Over the past 20 years, though, Mimsy Farmer has moved on to the art department with sculpting jobs for Marie Antoinette, Pan's Labyrinth, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Diana KochHOST
31:02
So she made a little bit of a shift from actress and over to the art department, which I thought was very fascinating.
Diana KochHOST
31:07
Oh, that is cool.
Danny BeardsleyHOST
8:59
Brilliant performance, dude.
Danny BeardsleyHOST
9:00
They reminded me of Pan's Labyrinth, the eye thing.
Danny BeardsleyHOST
9:04
That was a creepy eye thing, wasn't it? What have you been listening to? I've been listening to loads of things, but the album I want to talk about is Burn by Deep Purple.
Dan Dan HayesHOST
9:13
Oh!
ArnieHOST
97:14
If you haven't gotten our book, I don't know if you'd know of The Devil's Backbone.
ArnieHOST
97:18
And then ending with for its 20th anniversary, it just came back to theaters, Pan's Labyrinth.
ArnieHOST
97:24
That's definitely the high note to end on as far as at least people knowing the movie
StuartHOST
97:31
yeah that's the one i remember right yeah say what you will about del toro as a hollywood movie maker we're watching him find his voice as a personal storyteller kronos devil's backbone leading into pan's labyrinth is a lot of growth i think what he does in his spanish language films will really inform the filmmaker that he is today so i hope you can join us for platinum

ColleenHOST
11:03
And unfortunately, when I went to stream it, I discovered that although it's listed everywhere as streaming, it was pulled for the 20th anniversary event.
