Jonathan BordellGUEST
60:54
Yeah.
Jonathan BordellGUEST
60:55
I mean, I've got these books about vintage Panerai, right? Now, these are written by the head of marketing at SYN, right? And these are interviews with Panerai users, and you can imagine who they were, who are all now dead.
Jonathan BordellGUEST
61:06
But if you start researching into this and seeing the tragic stories and horrible stories, not glamorizing it at all, things start inspiring you to do things in a different way.
Jonathan BordellGUEST
61:16
And when the Sieb Gorman brand, we've got one customer whose grandfather served on the midget submarines, you know, and he sent us his pictures and his grandfather's Sieb Gorman underwater knife.

Jonathan BordellGUEST

Was it Richemont?
Marc LevesqueHOST
82:00
Vendome.
Marc LevesqueHOST
82:00
They were the people who owned Panerai at the time.
Marc LevesqueHOST
82:04
And this box was, I don't know, two feet wide, two feet tall.
DennyHOST
14:24
and they gave a control of of the brand uh jlc they have iwc they have langa and sony but uh they also have manufacturing uh distribution all that stuff right within the same group so it's as strong as swatch, I would say.
DennyHOST
14:50
But they also have Cartier, Vacheron, Piaget, Panerai, Baume & Mercier.
DennyHOST
15:02
But again, the brands remain very distinct from each other.
DennyHOST
15:08
There's no mixing there.
Ripley SellersPANELIST
30:51
today though
RickHOST
30:51
I'm wearing something else I'm wearing woo do you want to share it with the class come on it's a Tudor Black Bay Harrods-y thing but favorite watch a Panay no problem
Ripley SellersPANELIST
31:04
No
RickHOST
31:04
problem.
David GriscomHOST
22:45
pull it up for everybody if they if you would like put in the comments for people to steal this guy's fit
Matt LechHOST
22:53
I Think politicians, you know, I mean that's the thing is like I mean people don't notice watches unless they're into watches But I would just say like that's something you can I saw Gavin Newsom talking about we need to be the party of affordability in the working class and I know that he was wearing a Panerai watch, but I don't think you can get those for under like
David GriscomHOST
23:08
15,000 So anyways, we're saying all this because Ken Paxton is totally a ghoul, and we'd like to see him beat.
David GriscomHOST
23:18
But there's also the question of what this future would look like.
Simon TsalikisHOST
13:05
No.
Simon TsalikisHOST
13:05
Uh, I got a Panerai or something along those lines.
Daniel ShearHOST
13:08
Okay.
Simon TsalikisHOST
13:08
Yeah.
Wesley SmithHOST
2:36
Is it a
Matthew McDonoughGUEST
2:36
Panerai? No.
Matthew McDonoughGUEST
2:37
You know what? This is the Rolex Submariner ad where it's the submarine commander from the US Navy.
Matthew McDonoughGUEST
2:45
He's at the attack periscope and you can just kind of see
Wesley SmithHOST
2:48
his Submariner kind of
Matthew McDonoughGUEST
2:50
over his wrist there.
Wesley SmithHOST
2:51
Yeah, all I see is sort of like what appears to be a crown guard, similar to a Panerai.
Wesley SmithHOST
2:56
It's very difficult to see from here.
RalphHOST
43:40
So anybody who has-
MartinHOST
43:41
No one has a Panerai.
RalphHOST
43:43
Oh.
JulianGUEST
43:43
Oh, I beg to differ.
RalphHOST
43:45
Ah.
RalphHOST
43:46
You have the-
MartinHOST
43:47
Oh, you do have the Panerai.
MartinHOST
43:48
There you go.
Sarah SeifertGUEST
12:35
I would say when I start.
Sarah SeifertGUEST
12:37
So I started at what, 20? 2009 there was a trend bigger was better and a lot of Panerai watches and I know Arnold Schwarzenegger is a big collector and we actually did an article or an interview with him and it showed his collection they were all well over 40 millimeters gigantic and that was really a trend when I started in the industry and now it's shrunk so now a trend is actually smaller men's watches So you're seeing more men wearing Cartier tank watches.
Sarah SeifertGUEST
13:07
Timothy Chamelet is a big Cartier fan.
Sarah SeifertGUEST
13:10
He has The Crash and a bunch of other Cartiers.
Andrew MorganHOST
19:20
And a lot of those brands, although they are more premium, as you mentioned, they don't necessarily hold their residuals as much, and the incremental difference in quality between, say, a Rolex and a JLC, for many people won't be enough, noticeably enough, to make the purchase worthwhile.
Andrew MorganHOST
19:38
And ultimately, that's why brands in this category, like the IWC's, the JLC's, the Panerai's, et cetera, it's why they struggle more, because although they have a lot of brand recognition, it's very difficult to justify that extra spend.
Andrew MorganHOST
19:52
Where I think, very bizarrely, it becomes easier to justify spend is in the 20 to $50,000 price bracket.
Andrew MorganHOST
20:02
Now, that sounds mental because that's a lot of money.

RalphHOST
31:58
Mm-hmm.
MartinHOST
31:58
It was a Panerai, a, um, a Reverso, a JLC, the integrated bracelet one, and a few other things, right? Um, um, and he, there was a chronograph he was looking at, I think a Speedmaster, uh, FOIS.
MartinHOST
32:15
Then he finally said, you know, he realized what he wants is a Reverso.
MartinHOST
32:19
So he's into the Reverso.
