Pandora

Anyone who is even remotely aware of science fiction stories will surely be familiar with the trope of a habitable moon.

Probably the most famous example these days is Pandora, the habitable exomoon depicted in James Cameron's Avatar series.

So is this just sci-fi or is it genuinely possible? Essentially, these are Earth-like planets in every way except for the fact that they orbit a gas giant.

So yes, by construction, such a moon would almost certainly be habitable.

[laughs]

It's like watching Terminator, and then y- y- you're, you're watching Predator in the woods, and then the final act of the film you're on Pandora with James Cameron.

Like, that's kind of the experience of this movie.

It's like, w- what the f- what the heck is going on here?

Because we go from monster movie to alien movie to Transformers movie to Mad Max: Fury Road to-

[laughs] Superhero movie

... superhero movie to Pandora-esque conflict-

Yes

Yeah, I think so.

And then after that, we walked over to Pandora.

Uh, we got there at 1:14.

We entered Flight of Passage at, uh, 1:16, and we had a single pass.

You know that people are going to show up for this land.

But unlike Pandora, which was fresh land, everything was brand new.

When you go in, the former capacity was zero, and now it is however many thousand.

We are taking a land that already existed and just replacing it.

There's animals, there's different areas of the world, it feels nature-heavy, and we're gonna go all out here and we're going to try to make a new area that feels in line with the vision of Animal Kingdom.

And Animal Kingdom feels different than everywhere else.

Even Pandora feels immersive in a way that does belong there, even though that is kind of one intellectual property right there.

And I think that Indiana Jones coming here as one component, it just spoke to we don't want to just change one thing.

Right now I have it on screen, I want you to see it.

We have the images of the Avatar movie, we see the mother tree of Pandora.

You see that they are exactly, there you can see it, surrounding it to attack them.

The interesting thing about all this, as we talked about before, is that when they are burning the mother tree, the genoma helix is seen, and how they burn it, as saying that the previous human is no longer there, which is like something else, which is ending not only with the silica trees, but we are entering another stage.

Yeah.

This is like, so for people who don't know, it's a quick boat ride that's Pandora themed.

So it's basically something for the littles to do while everyone goes and rides Flight of Passage, which is the thrill ride.

There's just nothing really happening.
