Palmer Park

And so if you miss one, it could still hatch, so we really wanna make sure they're dead.

Now, you had mentioned you were doing a seminar recently in the Palmer Park, Detroit area-

Yeah

... and they were...

But every reinvention has setbacks.

Early that Friday morning, Detroit 911 receives an urgent call from the vicinity of Palmer Park.

Palmer Park is a historical park in the city of Detroit, located in the University District.

The Palmer Park area in the night can be a little bit of a sketchy place.

There's a woman needs help.

The caller says there was a woman lying in the street.

At the onset of any investigation, you have to follow the evidence, right?

And based on where they found Kelly, the detectives have reason to believe the crime could be motivated by anti-trans prejudice.

And, you know, it's quiet as it's kept.

Probably in your day, parks like a Palmer Park were unkempt and you weren't supposed to go there.

But you know who was there? Yeah.

The gay community was at Palmer park.

Okay.

So they had to have sanctuary in places that other people did not want to go.

And I'm hoping that people read Black Summers and they say, oh, my God, I totally forgot about that.

And even though they live in Cleveland, it's resonating because we had sort of a common experience as we came out of the migration.

Yeah.

So we would go, when I was old enough to drive, I would be up Detroit, go to Palmer Park.

Palmer Park.

All right, so hold on.

All right.

Oh.

Oh, I know about Palmer Park.

I know you, I didn't know you used to be in Detroit like that.
