And I went to Palm Beach State College for the first outreach.

I didn't even know these things existed, right? Which is crazy, right? Not that I was looking though.

Veterans are funny.

And so I go into this outreach at Palm Beach State College, and it's a room of like 60 tables, and they're all full.

And I looked at Rhonda, and she's the founder of Heard.

Question, I'll share two statements from it with you.

So I started to email all of the coaches in South Florida, and I emailed everybody.

University of Miami, FAU, Lynn University, Palm Beach, Palm Beach Atlantic, Broward, Nova Southeastern, Barry.

I hit up everybody.

And almost all of them responded, but Broward was the one that said, we have a need, and We'd love to have you." I initiated that conversation.

And so I did.

I found that they had an internship program for someone like me who was looking to – I was working in the restaurant business at the time, going to school, Palm Beach State College, FAU.

And I was looking for something more substantial and was just married and thought this is the time to maybe take on a career.

And so with that, I met Chuck at the time.

She is now responsible at age 18 for feeding, clothing, and caring for her four younger siblings aged 16, 14, 11, and 3.

She said she had postponed her plans to attend Palm Beach State College this fall and instead will work two jobs, one as a restaurant server and another at a hotel front desk to help pay rent and household bills.

It's going to be really, really hard to live without my parents' help, Wendy said, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Wendy said relatives, neighbors, and friends have visited daily to offer support, but their house feels empty and their lives shattered.
