Palladian architecture

President Connolly was a special guest at a dinner at Dumfries House last night.

This was a strictly private event hosted by the King in the Palladian surroundings of Dumfries House, an 18th century mansion set on an extensive parkland estate.

A spokesperson for President Connolly said a number of other guests were in attendance at the dinner.

King Charles had earlier in the day hosted a reception at the Harmony in Food and Farming Summit at Dumfries House.

Very, very, very narrow.

Classic Palladian mansion.

So it is very, very long.

You have this beautiful enfilade.

Very Musselboro.

Very, very Musselboro, yeah, indeed.

It is the classic Italian Palladian style architecture of the house and it goes with the gladiators and where the Sphinx come in.

Sphinx represent power and grandeur and this is what he wanted for his guests arriving.

And then we're going to go outside.

We're going to stay in a spectacular villa and see some of those Palladian villas that were built in the 15th century.

So that's the idea behind the villas because it's, you know, really the country homes of the Venetian wealthy.

And these are some of the most spectacular pieces of architecture.

I love to do a city country kind of tour where we do that, like Lisbon and then Madeira.

And we do that a lot just to, because cities, they take more work and a little bit more out of you sometimes.

So one of the things that I, you mentioned Palladian villas, Palladian villas are so beautiful because of symmetry.

So you will see these Palladium windows and they always have the same number of windows on both sides of the doors.
