A report published by an independent UN commission last September, which I think I referenced last week as well, concluded that Israel has committed and continues to commit genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

The FAI voted to submit a motion to UEFA to ban Israel from its European club and international competitions based on two alleged violations of UEFA statutes by the Israel Football Association, organising clubs in occupied Palestinian territories without the consent of the Palestinian FA and the alleged failure of the IFA to enforce an effective anti-racism policy.

Just in terms of UEFA, I know you were on the radio, Keith, on Saturday.

I know you're not too happy in terms of the oversight that they've sort of given over this issue and specifically in regard to Israel.

... ev- even on a footballing level, so foot- league football's just returned to Palestine, and they called their return tournament the Cup of a Thousand Martyrs, and that's because 1,014 Palestinian athletes have been killed by Israel, uh, according to the Palestine Football Association's figures.

And in, in the midst of one of these statements, there was this, this line that just jumped out at me, that a Palestinian goalkeeper was killed while waiting for humanitarian aid, and then you're telling people to go out and play against this nation as if nothing's happened.

This, this very much for me sits, it's abhorrent to that notion, and it sits very much at the feet of UEFA, who are the ones saying, "Go out and play this game," right? I think they have just not made a stand.

I can qualify

that statement if you'd like and it's in relation to using the statement by the Palestine Football Association who had to then come out and clarify their position because it was misrepresented.

Recently, I saw pictures of another sporting match.

In the Jabalia refugee camp, the Palestinian Football Association cleared rubble and laid down turf amidst the ruins of buildings.

There, teams of Gazans who have lost a limb were playing, using mobility devices and modifying, doing what they could to still come together and play soccer.

Though under ceasefire at the time of this recording, Gazans are still living in unimaginably difficult conditions, largely uprooted from their homes and experiencing limited access to resources and information.
