THE LOI POD: Finn Harps takeover, Stephen Kenny’s future, and the week that was for James McClean and Mark Allen
S
41:42Stephen DoyleHOST
It was absolutely brilliant.
S
41:44Stephen DoyleHOST
Incredible goals from the two main men, Pádraig Almond and Tommy Lonergan.
S
41:48Stephen DoyleHOST
The bicycle kick was incredible.
S
41:51Stephen DoyleHOST
And the Almond header is one of the best headers you'll see.
S
41:55Stephen DoyleHOST
But perhaps showing that there is a bit of you know, maybe a defensive frailty there with Waterford if you get them on the wrong night.
S
42:04Stephen DoyleHOST
So could we see Drogheda down there get a point from the Blues? Did you see anything in the match against Derry?

And they were really unlucky because Keenborn will be a loss for them.

It was.

last night have been phenomenal.

Like even the overhead kick by Almond.
O
23:40Owen HearyGUEST
But I thought Lonergan's header was unbelievable.
O

What a header.

I'm looking directly down the lens here at Mark Walsh who works with us, who's a Shelburne supporter.
C
23:46Colm BoohigHOST
And he says beforehand, it was like, I think the Lonergan goal was better than the Almond goal.
C
23:50Colm BoohigHOST
I was like, would you stop now? He had so much work to do with that header.
C

And the power and the

so they've swapped positions with Drogheda United for the time being both on 37 points but Waterford up to 8th because they have a superior goal if it's minus 10 to Drogheda's minus 13 so Waterford 2-0 up last night against Galloway it was all going very very well Paul Jammin scored twice the second of which was one of the most perfectly executed bicycle kicks you will ever see it was technically fantastic Galloway though responded two goals earlyish in the second half first quarter of an hour or so 2-2 and then Tommy Lonergan one of the men of the season in the League of Ireland Premier Division beautiful header our own Mark Walsh there a staunch Shelburne fan and League of Ireland supporter was of the hipster opinion that Lonergan's header was more impressive than Almond's bicycle kick but look we'll let you all decide that either way it was a massive three goals and three points for Waterford
M

yeah absolutely and you're looking at the the table there and suddenly now the relegation playoff picture is becoming a little bit more I suppose jeopardised than the title race itself like you've got Waterford there on 37 you've got Drogheda there on 37 as well Galway Seaman so they'll be alright on 41 Sligo obviously could have drift so they do have to play each other Waterford and Drogheda so get out to that one if you can that's brilliant Waterford the way they're playing under Graham Coughlin is unbelievable really and there's a lot of these players especially like that front two I'm loving that front two like Tommy Lonergan and Paul Jammin like one end of the spectrum and the other as far as the ages go and they're complementing each other brilliantly both goals are exceptional and enjoy it while it lasts because look Paul Jammin's not young he's not going to be around too much longer and if Tommy Lonergan keeps playing the way he is he's also not going to be around too much longer so
C
17:24Colm BoohigHOST
What do you think his ceiling
M
17:24Matthew BrennanPANELIST
is? It's hard to know like I mean obviously he did make the step over to England already a couple of years ago when over to Fleetwood and it didn't go too well but we've seen that before and players come back and do well and go again like it doesn't have to be linear whereas his ceiling you wouldn't really know he seems like he's physically capable like one thing people pointed out with Jack Moylan when he was in the League of Ireland is that like athletically and it's not just the size of the player it's not just like how they can handle themselves under a bit of pressure from maybe a player who's five or ten years older than them it's like the athletic make up of a player is what matters when you go over to England and Jack Moylan was kind of looked at as someone who was going to be able to transition that no matter where he played and that's proven to be the case I think Tommy Lonergan has a little bit of that maybe not quite as technically sound as Jack Moylan is but he's a striker and he can put the ball in the net so who knows where a ceiling is

28 goals between Almond and Lonergan this season.

Um, sorry, I just have to actually give Padraig Amond a mention.
H
141:26Harry ShorthoseHOST
The man, the myth, the legend himself, the GOAT.
H

He, um, got an assist on Friday night for Waterford in a 2-nil win over Bohemians in the FAI S- um, in the FAI Cup semifinal.

Noah Mawene opened the scoring just after the break before Tommy Lonergan continued his good week with a goal just shy of the hour mark.
S
4:35Shane HannonHOST
It was a long ball out of the back and a lovely chested touch from Padraig Amond, and then just laid it off for Lonergan, who finished the ball into the back of the net.
S

And that was all she wrote for Bohemians, and Waterford FC into the FAI Cup Final for the first time in 22 years.

As I said, today sees Galway United and Derry City battle it out in the other of these FAI Cup semifinals.

High praise for a couple of his players, uh, after that 2-0 win away to Bohemians last night to make their first Club Orange FAI Men's Cup final in 22 years.

So Waterford F- FC through to the decider.

One of those players that Graham Coughlan mentioned was, of course, uh, the legendary Padraig Amond.

I think Tommy Donegan, Donegan has probably been the one who's, he's top scorer, and I know Derry were, probably hunted him hard in the summer to try and get him up there.
D
20:09David McMillanGUEST
But, um, him and Padraig Amond.
D
20:11David McMillanGUEST
I think since Padraig Amond's come back, like I said before, a lot of people come back at that age.
D
20:16David McMillanGUEST
Even when I came back, you're not at the same physical condition when you left in your 20s or, you know, he left quite early in his 20s from the League of Ireland.
D

Um, but just the cleverness of him as a striker, you know.

When I say retired, I mean moved on from the top clubs too soon.
V

Because scoring goals, and you'll know this, scoring goals is such a knack that you need to hold onto it.
V
21:08Vinny PerthHOST
Pa- Padraig Amond, you, you were still very fit when you decided to retire, and obviously you had work stuff outside of it, made it a bit easier for you.
