P versus NP problem

Uh, that's from The Information.

Uh, there's also, uh, a bunch of speculation about P equals NP, P versus NP, uh, which is going to be, uh, another interesting round of discussion.

And, uh, there's nothing more that investors wanna see than solving math [laughs] problems apparently, 'cause, uh, OpenAI is considering a pre-IPO funding round and more than $1.2 trillion valuation s- Now, of course, uh, it's, it's on the back of a bunch of solid progress on Open Router, the ramp data, uh, and a bunch of other acceleration and distribution of codecs and, and Astra and, uh, and just general progress on the business side.

Each Millennium Prize problem has a million dollar reward attached, and only one has been solved in the 26 years since the prize was established.

The other problems include the most famous unsolved problems in math, such as the Riemann hypothesis and P versus NP.

You know, the things we all talk about when we get together for dinner.

Now, for the purposes of this particular episode, I'm actually not going to get into the details of the problem itself or debates around whether it has any significant real world applications.

I mean, a, a nice thing about math is that, um, the, the ceiling for difficulty of a math problem is pretty high.

So even if, um, you know, kind of-- e-even if AI get, you know, continues getting like exponentially better at math, like it might, you know, it's plausible we'll never solve something like P versus NP.

Mm-hmm.

And it, it could be that like the, the field kind of becomes more, um, you know, attached to like, like these big mysteries-

So that's a big conjecture.

It is actually, uh, on the list, uh, of conjectures for twenty-first century, uh, compiled by Smale, uh, and it is next to the Riemann hypothesis and P versus NP.

So it happened that this conjecture was again wrong, so Fable managed to construct a counterexample.
