In the southwest, we had the Oyo Empire, which became one of the most powerful states in West Africa.

In what is now Edo state, we had the Kingdom of Benin, famous for its sophisticated political organizations and incredible works of art.

In the north, we had the Aosa city-states developed major centers for trades and learning.

So that's why he's called Samuel Ajayi Prouda.

I have read that Crowther's grandfather was the king of the Oyo Empire in West Africa.

Did this royal descent affect Crowther's life in any way?

I believe so.
