Here on Anytime Classical, I'm your host, Denise Finnegan-Hill.

Overture to The Looking Glass Knight, an opera attempt by a fifteen-year-old Franz Schubert.

He abandoned the project after composing this overture and the first act.

However, the overture has survived and is a fine selection performed here by the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Paul Angerer.

I can't be on the podium for that, but there's a wonderful conductor based in Chicago at Roosevelt University, Benjamin Fierer, who will be the guest conductor for that concert.

Bernstein Candide Overture.

It's a splashy, wonderful, thrilling opener to any concert.

This is Overture to his opera The Flying Dutchman about a ghost ship and its cursed captain.

We'll hear the Cleveland Orchestra under the direction of George Zell.

Hans Funk led Staatskapelle Dresden in Overture to La Finta Giardiniera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Music of Luis Moreau Gottschalk, a concert paraphrase on national airs, including quotations from the Star-Spangled Banner, Columbia, and Yankee Doodle.

This is The Union, and we'll hear a recording by pianist Ellen Marks.

It's every robot we meet is going to be named after the song that they have.

So the Handelbot is playing Handel's Surprise Symphony, and Tchaikovsky's bot is playing 1812 Overture.

The Tchaikovsky bot, I want you to picture WALL-E, like from the movie WALL-E, but the top of him is a record player.

Okay.

So it's not, you know, the disc isn't open to the elements.

But you can, like, it's a glass container, so you can see the record spinning.

And it's playing the 1812 Overture.

And the handlebot is a, is like a car stereo, like, not, what is it? What are those little compact things you put in a car? Cassettes? Tapes.
