Astra, it said, showed significant advancements in agentic coding and cybersecurity, resulting in the company not being able to rule out critical cyber capabilities.

The Oversight Board is once again pushing Meta to address the flood of AI-generated content on its platform.

The group published its two latest decisions dealing with the social media company's handling of AI content.

The cases show that Meta's rules are "...consistently and fundamentally inadequate to address the rapid rise of AI-generated content on its platform." Both cases were related to posts with AI-generated videos.

Meta told the board that it did not remove the video when it was reported because it had not been flagged by any of its trusted partner organizations and because it did not seem to be interfering with voting or other processes.

The video was also not labeled as AI-generated, apparently because the person who posted it did not choose to disclose it was made with AI.

The Oversight Board said the video should have been removed for breaking Meta's hateful conduct rules, and that it should have been prominently labeled as AI.

The other case also featured an AI-generated video of a real person.

Do you remember Facebook had its Supreme Court of Justice? The Oversight Board.

That's what it was.

And there were, you know, like nine people that were meant to evaluate cases that would bubble up from a billion or more users to provide a failsafe.

And I think after 2016, you know, when we saw, you know, the arrival of Donald Trump as president, we saw increasing political populism and volatility, we saw this huge spike in disinformation and hate speech online.

And, you know, I went on to work after Meta for an organization called the Oversight Board, which was a body that was set up to actually scrutinize content decisions on Facebook and Instagram, and there you really saw at scale all the mistakes that Meta was making all over the world, and it's impossible not to pay attention to that stuff once you've seen it.

Did Mark Zuckerberg and the Facebook execs you worked with have any regard for the power they held and for some of the adverse effects that started to emerge with things like addiction and the disinformation that we've seen explode?

You know, often these were problems that people paid attention to, but then there was just a woeful lack of response and a lack of investment in truly treating these things as the priorities they should've been.
