Night Demon on tour with Danish metal icon King Diamond and New Jersey thrash metal veterans Overkill.

We're on the road with Night Demon about to hit Phoenix, Arizona.

This is the King Diamond Tour.

King Diamond could not use his full stage set.

Bobby Blitz from Overkill introduced me to Dave Ellefson of Megadeth, who I had actually never met in person.

He had filled in for Overkill on their South American shows.

What are his two that you can think of offhand?

Probably like any Overkill album that came out in the 90s.

As being? Said I like that he doesn't.

Oh, okay.

And then what of the first Overkill albums do you not like?

I hate Feel the Fire, and I'm not a big fan of whatever the second one is.

I can't remember if that's Under or Years of Play.

And even when the bass pokes up through the mix for It's Time to Shine, there's nice work being done there too.

All in all, a solid thrash album for fans of bands like Exodus, Testament, Overkill, and Havoc.

But Game Over has some top tier vocals to go along with that thrash.

While I love those gritty and caustic crooners, whether it's Zetro, Dukes, but something to be said from the frontman, Danny Schiava, who's able to apply melody and grit and everything in between, which can rarely be done by a vocalist, especially in thrash.

And then you had your more thrash-y thrash, which is Anthrax.

Exodus, Testament, Overkill, closer to Anthrax than they are Slayer.

Yeah.

I do find it interesting that out of all those, only two of them were East Coast bands.

which,

you know, Overkill and Anthrax.

Everybody else was in fucking California because of course.

So I wrote a song last night.

Castle Rat in there with Wolf One for Four Headed Trunk.

Damnation is a great song.

But damn it, so is Soulja Boy, so is Misfits, so is the whole damn album.

Love that record, man.

Yeah.

Um, and then guys like D.D. Verni from Overkill, I mean, their tones and their playing were so out front, almost like lead bass that-

Yeah

... that was when it kinda became apparent to me like, oh, the bass is pretty cool, too, you know? Like, Geezer Butler, like killer tone.

I, I mean, I'll preface it with saying when I was younger before I really started playing music, I was a skateboarder and very, very serious about it to the point of spons- getting sponsored and, and thinking, "Maybe I can make a life out of this," you know? Um, but at the same time, you know, I knew my limitations, so it was like, "Cool, this is fun.

I'll do it till the point of, you know, I get hurt," or, you know, whatever it might have been.

So when I transitioned to music it was like, "Man, I hope someday I can open up for, like, a big band at a club," you know? Like, or I, I was happy when I opened up for Overkill in Allentown, Pennsylvania, as like the fifth opener, you know?

Right.

I've recently been going back 30 years to the year 1996.

Only seems 10 years ago, doesn't it? And in 1996, Overkill, they were going through a very strange patch, weren't they? And they released the album The Killing Kind.

So I'm going to play you the title, not the title track, the last track of that.

That's the whole point of this slot.
