EBSCO or OverDrive or, you know, um, whatever the museum equivalent would be, then okay, are you gonna be in sales? Are you going to be in marketing? Are you going to be loading things into the truck? What do you actually wanna do? And that goes back to, like, what are your strengths? What are your values? What are your interests? What do you, the individual person who is talking to me right now, actually want to do, right?
Elin PhilbyHOST
33:28
Yeah.

I've had people who became a prospect researcher, which is the person who helps with fundraising to identify donors, maybe at a museum or at a hospital or something like that.

And then I also do, I just have like little nooks where I'll put like an eight and a half by 11 sign with just like a sign I created or one of my eight library aids creates in Canva and just put like five books around it.

So just tiny little mini displays that gets kids interested in whatever that topic is um of course then you can always do book talks and book tastings when kids come in the library so that's kind of my beginnings of how i get them um interested by having that great collection and then you have to get the kids in the library to actually check out the books so um i actually schedule all of my we call it rela reading language arts classes here um so i have to do a sixth grade week a seventh grade week and an eighth grade checkout week and where i see every real life class and sometimes they come in we do a little mini lesson and they check out sometimes it's just straight checkout depending on what is going on that week what our schedules look like testing holidays etc and so but at least every student in the school has an opportunity to come in every three weeks to get new books um and then the library is open for independent use all day long eight to four so those kids that are rap you know rapid readers can come back even when they finish their book early before the three weeks is up I also do a lot of challenges to get kids excited about reading so I do like a Sora challenge over the that's our ebooks in case somebody doesn't use Sora and over like the holidays and and just have like little prizes for whoever you know reads, I usually do the read 20 minutes a day one.
Brooke KingGUEST

So whoever reads the most days that way, and that way people are actually having to spend time reading and not just rushing through a book for the number of books.

And then I also have a blue bonnet reading challenge for my sixth graders.

This is, you know, how it's done.

Here's some themes." Anything that Meghan can use when she's talking to Barnes & Noble, and Apple, and OverDrive, and, and Bookshop, and all of our partners, she can share some of those insights that could potentially help us help you, and potentially invite you to promos from the various retailers when they come up.
Mark Leslie LefebvreHOST
37:18
So those are, those are the top tips that come to mind.
Jim AzevedoHOST

Perfect.
Guy LeCharles GonzalezGUEST

Yeah, so basically libraries in the e-book space have no negotiating power.
Guy LeCharles GonzalezGUEST
10:10
They basically have to take the terms that are given to them predominantly by OverDrive, which is predominantly driven by the publishers because publishers set those terms and then OverDrive mediates those relationships.
Guy LeCharles GonzalezGUEST
10:22
And OverDrive is the Amazon of the library e-book space.
Guy LeCharles GonzalezGUEST
10:25
There's some other competitors in there.
Guy LeCharles GonzalezGUEST
10:28
But libraries basically have built their entire digital presence online around that Overdrive platform and Libby app.
MarioHOST

You can go through...
MarioHOST
38:01
I think there's OverDrive and some other, but Libby is the big one.
MarioHOST
38:04
You just need access to a library card, and from there, you can connect, you can make an account on Libby and connect it to your local library, which you can get a card for free, and from there, you can check out e-books and read them directly on your e-reader from your library, and that's not a bad thing.
MarioHOST
38:21
I tell people, I have jokingly say this, but I tell people, "If you're not using your local library, you are wasting your money." Because if you're paying taxes, they are going to things like that.
LauraHOST
31:52
You can drop folders, drop PDFs.
LauraHOST
31:54
It also has OverDrive, which actually allows you to borrow books from your library really easily, seamlessly, and also allows you to really...
LauraHOST
32:02
They have a Kobo Plus program that hopefully will compete with Kindle Unlimited, 'cause it doesn't have the exclusivity right that Kindle Unlimited has.
LauraHOST
32:09
So I think there's some more possibilities there on the horizon that the infrastructure is being built.
Michael La RonnHOST
31:30
Audible, uh, I would be on, like, Voices and Audio, you know, to get to all the other, other places that are out there.
Michael La RonnHOST
31:37
You know, make sure your book is available on OverDrive so you can put the little Libby icon out there to let people know that they can get it from their local libraries.
Michael La RonnHOST
31:46
You know, th- there's just a, there's a lot of things that you can do from a distribution perspective to make sure that your, your book is available as wide as possible as well.
Michael La RonnHOST
31:54
And then if you do all the things that I think Sacha said, then you'll, you'll put yourself in a much better position.
