Overberg District Municipality

If I look at dry land row crops in South Africa, we have been obsessed with many small grain crops over the years without diversifying into legumes and crops with a bit of a bio-fumigation action like canola.

So that has really changed soil quality the last 10 years, not just in the Overberg area, but also in the Boland and the Swartland area.

So I think crop diversity would be one thing one needs to address.

And what is important, you need to know what is the depth of your soil, and many growers don't do it.

Well, job creation, I think that's top of priority when it comes to the quality of life here.

And fortunately there, in the Overberg itself, there has been quite a few interesting projects.

We're looking at a massive wind farm coming up outside Soylent Dam at the moment, which is providing quite a substantial amount of work.

Obviously, reporting on that, you can have a look at who's actually getting the work and whether we... have that typical Capitanian problem where workers get outsourced.

But, yeah, so fixing the employment problem is most definitely going to address a lot of the issues we have.

But, yeah, I'm looking at the election coming up and two municipalities out of the four in the Overbergberg really stand out like a sore thumb.

The one is Tierwaterskloof and those guys have been having quite a lot of problems in their voting.

And because it's such a tightly contested municipality, it's been swinging around over the last few years.
