I have the perfect lead in for this podcast.

Just before I joined, I was building a story from the Outdoor Life archives from the 1948 October issue of Outdoor Life.

And it's this super long story.

first-person account of two cowboys tracking down a big silver-tipped grizzly bear that had been hunting their cattle herd.

you know, have long-term trends so that we can build a management season around them.

That management season to me would be a quota-based harvest so we don't hound bears in one certain place.

And that by having hunters sort of normalize their relationship with bears where it's not just sort of this really, you know, you think about like all the narratives that we've talked about just within outdoor life, like, The bear is the villain almost always.

I'd like to start to build a narrative where it's a cherished species and part of the landscape.

Well, that's the one of my favorites.

That's the, that's the old standby that everybody read about every month and outdoor life in, um, still out there still going strong.

Keep in mind that is a two 70 is a neck down 30 odd six.

So the old 30 odd six, which is still out there banging around, but you'll see the two seventies going with 130, 140 grain bullets, probably on average.

It's coming out of the barrel at 2,700 feet per second, and it's still got 1,400 foot pounds of energy out at 400 yards.

So it's a solid, respectable cartridge today.

And if you remember the old Outdoor Life articles, Ed's sitting here looking at me, nodding his head up and down.

And I'm telling you, like, I'm going to read an article.

And honestly, like both of these things might seem a little not super engaging because I'm going to read an article from Outdoor Life about douchebag Isley.

And then I'm going to read another article that I read in Bassmaster Magazine, which is the exact opposite.

I don't cry, really.

I mean, right on the spot in front of all of us other bass anglers, in front of all of us other tournament heads, just slapped him.

I mean, it was wild.

But anyway, conservation warden Chris Bartelt confirmed to Outdoor Life that an investigation regarding bag limits is underway, but the DNR wasn't really going to talk about it.

Game wardens don't usually investigate fraud allegations related to fishing derbs, but they may refer to their reports for local law enforcement for an independent investigation.
