Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda became the second hospital in Ireland to achieve Pathway to Excellence, an international standard recognising nursing excellence, workplace culture and shared decision-making.

I met with members of the team at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to explore their journey from the decision to pursue Pathway through the culture it created to the day they received the news.

For Director of Nursing Adrian Cleary and his colleagues, that journey began in the aftermath of the pandemic, when they went looking for what Adrian calls their North Star.

We all know in healthcare that the pandemic was particularly challenging and I think specifically as nurses, I think we were to a large extent traumatised a little bit by that experience.

And we do know that incivility leads to serious patient risk.

And also it's risk to the well-being of staff.

So I'm just curious to know, how has Pathway helped to address that issue in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital?
