that kind of eventuate? So we went to university together in Otago in Dunedin in the South Island in New Zealand.

And we actually met when we were selling the Otago Daily Times subscriptions.

So we would like go around to the university halls and flats and knock on the doors and try and get them to buy a paper, which was obviously very hard because no one was interested.

But that's how we met.

You'll be doing it better than we did.

So what we did was get the Otago Daily, because this is pre-internet, so what we got was the Otago Daily Times, the paper copy of it, and we just basically cut things out of it and read them out on air.

That's essentially what doing the news was, but it was fun.

I had friends who were doing breakfast shows, so I was just kind of hanging out with them.

A couple of great New Zealanders, one of them being my nephew.

Now, I'm down in Dunedin, and I was reading the Otago Daily Times across the weekend, and they do this fantastic thing called 100 Years Ago Today.

Right.

And it's just a story that was exactly 100 years ago.

One fellow from Invercargill, a Mr Dixon, had invented a gizmo to deter burglars.

As the Otago Daily Times reported, "...on the attempt at housebreaking being made, the machine is so constructed that it would show the word thieves illuminated and also perform the feat of pointing in which direction the foiled robbers had decamped." It was thought desirable to have this machine exhibited as one of the manufacturers of Southland.

With so much on Dr Murray's plate, there was a hint of his reach exceeding his grasp, and that he wasn't above fibbing to big note himself.

In early 1864, he'd written a letter to the Invercargill Times that warned of a potential outbreak of pleuroneumonia among cattle.

The confrontation shows how decisions about government spending and staffing can move from workplace negotiations into a broader electoral argument about the capacity and cost of the state.

Japan is seeking a record 8.8908 trillion Japanese yen defense budget for the 2027 fiscal year as it accelerates a military transformation centered on drones, artificial intelligence, and longer-range weapons.

The proposal includes attack drones, AI-assisted command systems, and development of submarine-launched hypersonic missiles.

According to his closest mates at the time, Scanther's behaviour became increasingly eccentric.

They told journalist Rob Kidd at the Otago Daily Times that Scanther liked to troll people and that anything that gave him a thrill or a rush or a confrontation, he was game for.

They recalled him swearing in public and making derogatory slurs to passing women, giving impromptu lectures to children about being a doctor, eating pasta with his hands in a restaurant.

Whatever got him a reaction.
