Orel Hershiser

I know you got the inside scoop with Orel Hershiser, who's a very good friend of yours.

So d- have you heard anything about who's gonna be playing Orel if they, if he-

No. [laughs]

Orel.

Orel Hershiser.

Or- O- Oral, Orel, uh, Hershiser.

What a name.

So just one other quick one, Justin.

So I was doing the Little League World Series and, and Michael's dad reached out to me and said, "Hey, Orel Hershiser's in the booth with you.

Any chance that maybe I could drive up there and have Michael meet Orel?" And to his credit, Orel said, "Of course, bring him up here." So I, I forget how old you were then, and I think it's a-- it probably speaks to what you just talked about.

Um, I, I don't know.

All right.

So did he get deep into the mechanics? Like, what did he tell you that you remember from that? Um, because you just sort of talked about, at 16, uh, you know, everybody is telling me to spin it this way or grip it this way, and you're like, "No, I'm trying to win the battle, the one-on-one game against the dude that's up there.

I, I can't worry about that." What did, what did Orel Hershiser share with you?

So this is big props to obviously you and my dad for putting me in contact with him.

Definitely didn't necessarily have the fastball command, but goes to the changeup a bunch, breaks off that curveball, using that as a, as an early strike pitch, and, and he's, he's fun to watch.

He is a pitcher, and I love to watch pitchers, guys that are up there that are thinking along with the batter, that are thinking against whatever Orel Hershiser was thinking in the box or in the booth in his last start and all that kind of stuff.

He is really, really fun to watch, and you saw him going back and forth a lot to his card because he's like, "Hmm, what do I wanna do in this situation?" Not necessarily just sticking to the script or the game plan or whatever it was.

It's like, "No, let's, let's- Let's work with what I have, and he's one of the best to do it

Both dominant, one on four days' rest, the other five.

We discussed this yesterday with Orel Hershiser and David Vassegh, and certainly the two of them have much more Uh, they have much better insight to what the club is thinking-

Holds an unbreakable record in sport.

There are not many of those.

Orel Hershiser happens to hold one of them.

Um, David Vasse shared with us earlier in the week that he thinks Tarik Skubal's gonna be the game three starter.

It, it's just almost a perfect storm with the guy, you know, to where it's just, you know, he's not, his arm isn't as strong or I, a- as it was last year, and a lot of that I think it, you know, maybe with the World Classic and j- not having a good spring training or a proper spring training.

I recall in '85, Orel Hershiser went 19 and three, I believe.

It was his first breakout year.
