Answer: The principal portion of my command was transported to Beaufort, South Carolina; thence marched northward through Pocoteligo, Orangeburg, Columbia, Cheraw, Fayetteville.

But as you well know, South Carolina is the first state on the docket this time around for Democratic primary voters.

And so, Black voters are in play, will be in play.

So I think that both symbolically and practically, uh south carolina is a place to uh to stand up to that and you'll notice you know south carolina in in this kind of race to the bottom of gerrymandering uh south carolina is one of the states where republicans were unable to practice the gerrymandering that they wanted to do i think partly because they were afraid of arousing a powerful response from the black electorate there activating a lot of people around that Now, what I saw on the ground was that people are activated anyway, as they should be.

But I think these are exactly the kinds of conversations and kind of fights that we need to be leaning into right now.

So for me, the chance to be there directly engaging with voters, with advocates, activists, and then A very powerful evening at the NAACP in Orangeburg addressing so many people who had done so much to move the country forward.

And Orangeburg, of course, the site of the Orangeburg Massacre and a place that had such an important place in the history of the struggle for civil rights.
