Brian met us at the door, and fortunately, the policeman's daughter had had a date with Dennis Wilson.

And so I got in the door, I wasn't arrested, and that is the beginning of that relationship I had with Brian, which continued to my last studio album on Warner Brothers called Orange Crate Art.

And Brian Wilson told me at the beginning that we would share everything fifty-fifty.

He said, "What do you need, Van Dyke?" I said, "I need a car to get up here." And without signing a damn piece of paper, within twenty-four hours, I had a five thousand dollar check, and that was enough to get a Volvo at the time.
