Our Rescue

Um, he was very much involved in the media on September 10th.

Him and Tim Ballard started Operation Underground.

It was Glenn Beck that funded it.

Tim Ballard had the idea.

And, uh, yeah, that's a...

Operation Underground is rescuing children from human sex trafficking.

I believe their story began in Haiti.

I did interview Tim Ballard.

This guy Jim Cole, um, is starting a podcast.

He works for Our Rescue, and they're doing some amazing work, not just in the US, but around the world." So he connected me in with Jim.

Jim's a 30-year federal investigator of, of these types of crimes.

And then Jim was like, "You need to talk to Sonny.

14 million from you, and Sage and I put in five.

And now, along with Operation Underground Railroad and several other groups like Free a Girl and the Marichi Foundation over in Indonesia and, and India, uh, we've been able to participate in funding 28,000 of these rescues.

I've actually gone out on some, so we'll touch on that.

But I thought before we started, never done this before, is to show you the trailer of the film so you really get a sense that it's something you wanna go see, and also take anyone you know to go see as well.

And I can't even imagine if this was my child, boy or girl, that had gone through this experience.

And so that's what started me on the journey, and then, then I started doing more.

Then I found out about you, Tim, and the Operation Underground Railroad, and we talked and I was like, "I wanna go see this.

I don't really wanna see this.

Instead, it shows a dubious organization with ties to the Trump administration.

Last month, the Trump administration awarded a contract worth up to $244 million to an organization called Our Rescue, whose stated mission is, quote, to end human trafficking and child exploitation, end quote.

All right.

Our Rescue was formerly known as Operation Underground Railroad.

I'm going to tell you several important things about this organization.

First, it was founded by a guy named Tim Ballard, a former Homeland Security agent who has been the subject of two lawsuits.

The other lawsuit accuses him of forced labor and sex trafficking.

He's repeatedly denied those allegations, and the lawsuits are ongoing.

Last month, Avila Simpano said a one-year-old boy appeared in Phoenix Immigration Court alone without a lawyer.

The Trump administration has awarded a six-month no-bid contract to Our Rescue, a Utah-based group headed by a former ICE officer, though it's not clear whether they'll provide direct representation.

Then another one, another grifter, is Operation Underground Railroad and Tim Ballard.

Remember him? Yep.

Trump hands $244 million no-bid contract to Sound of Freedom, group being sued for sex trafficking.

Trump's HHS, this is from Right Wing Watch, slipped the $244 million no-bid contract to the disgraced Sound of Freedom outfit, OUR Rescue, Operation Underground Railroad, to provide lawyers for immigrant kids.

OUR Rescue is currently being sued For sex trafficking, the organization has zero prior federal contracts of any kind.

Its entire lifetime relationship with the US Treasury consists of this one single deal.

It also appears to have no immigration lawyers on stack and no track record of providing specialized legal services on the contract that the contract requires.

Yeah, that's right.

OUR Rescue, formerly known as Operation Underground Railroad, just landed a $158 million federal contract.

The group will provide legal services to unaccompanied immigrant children.

That's a big shift for them.

The government solicitation calls for legal help for children currently in or released from ORR custody.

That includes courtroom assistance for children facing immigration proceedings.

But legal services aren't exactly our rescue's specialty, right?

That's right.

Another thing in your story horrified me too, Sonali, which is not only are they withholding this funding for legal representation, they're now diverting it.

to, as you put it, dubious alternatives, to which I say, I'll say they are, because they granted, as you write ORR, the Office of, I forget what it's called, Refugee Resettlement, I think, unexpectedly granted a Utah-based anti-trafficking nonprofit called Our Rescue, more than $244 million.

And first of all, if that figure sounds a lot like a quarter of a billion dollars, it is, for a contract it never applied for to provide legal services for unaccompanied minors.

Now, I happen to know some things about our rescue.

It's a horrifying group.

They made a very fictional movie about it.
