Minnesota law enforcement arrested the ICE agent Wednesday in the shooting of the Venezuelan immigrant in Minneapolis during Operation Metro Surge, culminating months of delays and legal maneuvers in efforts to bring him to the state to answer for his crimes.

Christian Castro, who's 52, was stopped by agents with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in a traffic stop near his attorney's office in Minneapolis and taken to the Hennepin County Jail, where he's currently being held.

In January, Castro was stationed in Minnesota, part of Operation Metro Surge.

He suspected the driver was in the country illegally.

I want to go back to January 2026, Operation Metro Surge, because the story of what happened the night that Christian Castro allegedly fired the shot, which both hit a man in the leg and lodged in a child's playpen, which is like super alarming when you just say it out loud.

It's a story that I think my listeners will be familiar with, right? Minneapolis, officers are driving around running license plates, run a license plate of someone and say, ah, that pings as someone who maybe we should be pursuing.

So Operation Metro Surge was in full effect.

Minnesotans were protesting.

They were protesting Donald Trump.
