Operation Hammer

There's that that long history that you note, obviously, and I think shaping people's thoughts, but also like a more immediate context of.

recent L.A. history, which was that, you know, just in a period of a couple of years before, like really 1987 to 1990, so just a handful of years before this trial is happening, Black neighborhoods across Los Angeles were enduring what was called Operation Hammer.

And this was this really violent paramilitary enforcement operation.

The L.A. police are enormous, incredibly well-funded with huge, you know, weapons and military style machinery at the ready.

There was a full repertoire of force responses that they trained for.

They were very serious guys, but crash, and which culminated in Operation Hammer, which the opening of that movie, Colors, which I think Colors is a fucking great movie, but, uh, the opening scene where LAPD, um, they, they just, like, swarm the city, and they basically, like, they basically throw bracelets on, like, every known gang member, or, like, everybody, or, like, every, or every, like, military-age male, like, flying Colors, and they, like, throw them in a county jail, you know, um, To kind of get an idea, like, not just, like, setting up to literally lay the hammer down and say, like, LAPD runs the street.

But they wanted to get an understanding.

They wanted to also, like, get these guys' government names on the system.

It's just cool.

But it's also...

When it opens up and it's Operation Hammer... where Gates is basically like, like flying crash.

They're just like, they're throwing the brace that sound like any, like any military age male, like flying gang colors.
