Operation Gothic Serpent

All right.

From, uh, Brian Ricks, "Mogadishu: Operation Gothic Serpent." No sort of question mark.

This is just the title.

So it's like, "What do you wanna talk about?" Okay, Gothic Serpent, October 3rd, today, honestly is a, the-

... and re-watch it, I will say that.

Yeah.

Yeah, Operation Gothic Serpent, otherwise known as Black Hawk Down.

Rangers, Air Force, everybody involved in this huge shootout in Somalia back in 1993, looking for war criminals, going through Somalia, doing the whole thing.

...

Master Sergeant Scott Fales, Scotty Fales, and Pararescueman Timothy Wilkerson stood recognized for their extraordinary heroism during Operation Gothic Serpent.

If you guys aren't familiar with Go- Gothic Serpent, it is the, um, Mogadishu event that happened in Somalia back in 1993.

Um, fantastic movie on it, Black Hawk Down, um, or movie, book, whatever.

And on Friday, October 9th, Cherokee High School hosts the Cherokee Warriors Mogadishu Mile, a two-mile combat warrior obstacle course at 7 in the morning.

It honors Operation Gothic Serpent and is open to veterans, first responders, and the whole community.

Then on Sunday, October 11th, the first annual Sam Lambert Golf Tournament tees off at 9 at Sequoia National in Whittier.

The Day of Golf and Fellowship funds scholarships for the children of EBCI veterans.

On October 3, 1993, U.S. Army Rangers, Delta Force operators, and helicopter crews from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment launched a daylight raid into the Bakarta Market area of Mogadishu, Somalia.

The mission, part of Operation Gothic Serpent under Task Force Ranger, aimed to capture two lieutenants of Somali warlord Mohamed Farah Aidid.

The operation was expected to take under an hour.

Within minutes of the assault, the plan unraveled.

Now they're basically 4chan fascist meme names for operations.

But when they were somewhere between sounding cool and sounding like free association on acid, when I'm talking anywhere from Overlord or Operation Torch in World War II to Operation Gothic Serpent in Mogadishu in 1993, that was the peak weird American names.

But you're correct.

I'm pretty sure that their name for the invasion of Afghanistan was similarly anodyne.
