Operation Deep Freeze

So after Operation Highjump, America kept going back.

So in the mid-'50s, there was Operation Deep Freeze, and it built a permanent station at the South Pole with Byrd in charge.

This was Admiral Byrd's final expedition.

And then in 1959, 12 nations signed the Antarctic Treaty, basically banning all military activity on the continent and setting it aside for scientific research.

It's pretty much devoid the color green Because it's all covered 99% of the continent in ice.

And Admiral Byrd, after he came back from his fifth and final trip down there called Operation Deep Freeze, he did some interviews on the Long Jeans radio show.

And he kept using this term, the land beyond the poles.

But again, there is no land beyond the poles.
